HIP & KNEE
The hip is a ball-and-socket joint which allows the upper leg to bend and rotate at the pelvis.  Common hip injuries include hip fracture, pelvis fracture, hip dislocation, hip strains and muscle strain of the thigh. Ninety percent of the more than 352,000 hip fractures in the United States each year are the result of a fall. By the year 2050, there will be an estimated 650,000 hip fractures annually or 1,800 hip fractures a day.

The knee is the largest and most easily injured joint of the body.  Made up of the lower end of the thighbone which rotates on the upper end of the shinbone and the knee cap, the knee contains large ligaments which help control motion.  The meniscus, which absorbs shock, is a wedge of soft cushioning cartilage.  The most common knee injuries are to the knee ligaments and/or the cartilage.

The OIP Advantage:
OIP offers a relatively new procedure called viscosupplementation to treat painful osteoarthritis of the knee.  Viscosupplementation is the injection of a natural substance very much like the healthy fluid which normally surrounds the knee joint.  This acts as a shock absorber as well as a lubricant enabling the bones of the knee to move smoothly over each other.
